108 Sun Salutations for the New Year
Start the New Year of 2026 by supercharging your spiritual practice with 108 rounds of sun salutations led by Annie.
We will breathe together in a continuous moving prayer, consciously placing our bodies in vinyasa while aligning hearts and minds with our intention.
108 is considered sacred, representing the ultimate reality of existence: unity (=1), being simultaneously one, complete, and empty (=0), and infinite (=8). It connects the Sun and Earth, appears in various yoga and spiritual contexts (for example, there are 108 Upanishads, 108 mala beads, and on January 1, we practice 108 Surya Namaskars).
Surya (from Sanskrit Sūrya, meaning “the sun”) Namaskar (namas means “to bow to” or “to salute,” and kāra means “action”) - an invitation to honor the sun — the source of light behind everything.
Practicing sun salutations 108 times is an auspicious and energizing tradition that has been a hallmark of Three Boons Yoga Berlin (formerly known as Jivamukti Berlin) for many years. Originally established here by David Essing, this tradition is now carried on by Annie.
After chanting an opening prayer to Ganesh, we will practice 108 rounds of Ashtanga Surya Namaskar A (without holding five breaths in Downward-Facing Dog) and conclude with a restful shavasana.
Yes, 108 sun salutations sounds like (and are) a lot! It can feel challenging, but by the end, you’ll feel energized and ready for the year ahead, having conquered your first challenge of 2026.
But no pressure—feel free to rest in Balasana (Child’s Seat) whenever your body tells you to take a break.
Let's start the New Year by super-charging our spiritual practice with 108 rounds of sun salutations.

„the best way to uplift our own lives is to do all we can to uplift the lives of others“ (Sharon Gannon)
Yoga and the question of happiness have fascinated Annie since she first traveled to India and realized that there is so much more to discover than just a physical practice. From her first Jivamukti Yoga class on she was deeply moved by practicing yoga - as a way of connection - where she immediately felt at home.
Annie is deeply grateful for the teachings and all teachers, especially Anja Kühnel, her mentor David Essing, ALL teachers near and far, as well as Sharon Gannon and David Life for creating this magical practice.
Annie is a 800h+ certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher, and studied psychology & dance studies. She is currently assisting the “Three Boons 180 Hour Yoga Teacher Training” facilitated by Anja Kuehnel.
