GODDESSES, THE EMPOWERING QUALITIES OF FEMALE DIVINITIES
CHINNAMASTA – THE POWER OF DESIRE

A Special Jivanmukti Open with Émeline & Zorana

Goddesses are female deities representing power, nature, and the many dimensions of human experience. Among them, Chinnamasta is perhaps one of the most startling and mysterious figures of the tantric tradition.

She is depicted holding her own severed head while streams of blood flow from her neck, nourishing both herself and her companions. Beneath her, the lovers Kama and Rati lie in intimate embrace. Within this fierce image, apparent opposites meet: life and death, creation and destruction, desire and liberation.

The sexual symbolism is central to Chinnamasta’s teaching. She does not ask us to deny desire or reject the body. Instead, she represents the ability to meet sexual energy consciously, to guide it rather than be controlled by it, and to transform it into a source of vitality, creativity, and spiritual awakening.

In this sense, Chinnamasta embodies the yogic principle of brahmacharya. Often translated as celibacy, brahmacharya can also be understood more broadly as the wise and intentional use of our vital energy. It asks us to notice where our energy flows, what depletes it, and whether our desires lead us towards greater freedom or deeper attachment.

Chinnamasta reminds us that life is a continuous exchange of energy. We are constantly being asked to release one form so that another can emerge, to let go of control, certainty, and the identities to which we have become attached. Her self-decapitation symbolizes the cutting away of the limited mind: the ego that seeks to control, possess, and separate us from the greater flow of life.

Her teaching is not one of self-denial or suppression. It is an invitation to engage consciously with the powerful forces moving through us and to discover the freedom that becomes possible when desire no longer governs our actions.

This special Jivanmukti practice explores the power of radical surrender and the conscious direction of our vital energy. Expect a strong, transformative practice that invites us to remain present within intensity, release the need to control every outcome, and recognize desire as an energy that can be observed, guided, and transformed.

Strong Jivanmukti asana practice
Breath as a pathway into presence, self-mastery, and transformation
Mantra and live harmonium to invoke the powerful energy of Chinnamasta

Guided by Émeline and Zorana, this class is part of a special series dedicated to the empowering qualities of the goddesses. Drawn together by friendship, a shared path of yoga, and a deep fascination with these powerful feminine archetypes, they offer a practice that weaves together strong, purposeful movement, uplifting music, mantra, and heartfelt reflection.

Rooted in the Jivanmukti tradition, their teaching invites a genuine exploration of yogic philosophy, not as abstract theory, but as timeless wisdom that helps us reconnect with the innate intelligence, compassion, and courage that already reside within us. Together, they invite you to explore the wisdom of the goddess, not as mythology alone, but as a living force that can inspire and empower our everyday lives.

Inspired by Chinnamasta, we explore how to meet desire without being ruled by it and how to direct our vital energy with greater awareness and intention.

Chinnamasta reminds us: freedom does not come from suppressing our energy, but from learning how to use it wisely.

Zorana

Zorana’s interest in yoga began with a question she has carried since childhood: Who are we beyond the identity printed on a passport? She was born in a country that no longer exists — an experience that shaped her curiosity about belonging and what remains when external definitions fall away.

For Zorana, yoga is rooted in the classical definition from the Yoga Sūtra:
Yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ — Yoga is the suspension of the fluctuations of the mind.

To her, this means loosening the constant coloring of the mind — the judgments and narratives through which we interpret the world. It is not abstract, but the willingness to sit, breathe, observe, and allow space.

For a long time, she believed strength meant staying productive and managing everything well. Only later did she recognize how easily busyness becomes avoidance. Turning toward what arises, rather than covering it, is where practice begins.

Zorana has been teaching since summer 2023. In August 2025, she began her mentorship with Rowena Johnson, whose trust and guidance continue to shape her work as a teacher.

Alongside her teaching at Three Boons, she works as a seminar leader in medical centers across Germany, integrating yoga into neuro-orthopaedic therapeutic settings. She also works as a consultant in the public sector.

Émeline

»Separateness is an illusion.«

Émeline began her yoga journey at Three Boons Yoga Berlin (fka Jivamukti Berlin) in 2016 and has since then graduated here. She follows the method of Sharon Gannon and David Life, teaching a yoga of compassion and devotion and currently is undergoing a 630+ Hours mentoring program with Anja.

She also works as a neurotherapist specialising in trauma detachment and is forever grateful, through the teaching of yoga and neuro practice, to have the opportunity to help people on all levels: physical, psychological and spiritual.

Émeline grew up in the mountains and started to read oracles and tarots at the age of 15 and never left her decks behind since then.
