THE 2026 JIVAMUKTI YOGA NEW YEAR DETOX RETREAT VOL. 1

THE 2026 JIVAMUKTI YOGA NEW YEAR DETOX RETREAT

VOL. 1

January 8/9 -January 11, 2025

taught by Anja Kuehnel + powered by Alessia from our beloved Jivamukti Canteen

In a continuation of our longtime tradition of Jivamukti Yoga New Year Detox retreats on Rügen island we are, as of 2024, offering two of these retreats on the first and the second long weekend of the new year.

As of 2023 we also have moved to a new location which is – island fans that we are – just optimal for this retreat at the beginning of the New Year: We are practicing and detoxing in our own (for these retreats only;) renaissance manor situated on its own exclusive private mini-island within big Rügen island. Except, during January the intimacy of the mini-island and its surrounding bay waters is usually shared by hundreds of wintering white swans and other cool bird people. What better company can yogis wish for?

The rest will be a Jivamukti Yoga retreat concept we have tried, tested and refined for many years already (this will be our 11th time retreating on Rügen):

Detoxing yogi style for the New Year.

Meaning the detoxing will mainly come from the yoga classes taught by Anja but significantly complemented by a special detox selection of meals prepared by our former Jivamukti Canteen head Alessia who will be using only 100% organic and vegan ingredients.

THE DATES OF VOL. 1: Friday, January 9 until Sunday, January 11, 2026 with optional early arrival on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

(if this first full long weekend of the year is too early for you: check out Vol. 2 of this retreat on the weekend right after at the same location)

THE ISLAND: O Land der dunkeln Haine, O Glanz der blauen See, O Eiland, das ich meine, Wie tut's nach dir mir weh!- Heimweh nach Rügen (Ernst Moritz Arndt, 1842)

RETREAT LANGUAGE: English (Anja teaches in English but also speaks German for individual tips/assists/questions)

GENERAL INFO ON THE YOGA PROGRAM & OTHER ACTIVITIES

THE THEME: For the 10th time, Anja Kuehnel (Director Three Boons Yoga Berlin) and Alessia from our beloved Jivamukti Canteen are happy to offer our popular extended weekend New Year Detox retreat hosted on Germany's biggest Island, Ruegen, on the Baltic Sea. Fill up your energy reserves, detox your system, and set good resolutions for the New Year during this intensive yoga weekend, helped by the pristine environment on Ruegen island. With inspiring Jivamukti Yoga workshops taught by Anja Kuehnel and healthy and nutritious vegan food prepared by Alessia and her helpers , this is exactly what you need for a great start into 2026!

THE YOGA PROGRAM: Advanced Certified Jivamukti teacher and Three Boons Yoga director Anja Kuehnel will teach a 2-3 hour Jivamukti Yoga class every morning and evening. These will be intense and deep “workshop-style” classes with a focus on detox, in which Anja is using her years-long experience in teaching numerous international Jivamukti yoga retreats and trainings. We will experience different aspects of Jivamukti Yoga, including asanas, kriyas, pranayama and yoga philosophy. Guided meditations will be offered every morning and Satsang/chanting every other evening. The yoga practice will be perfectly complemented with carefully chosen detox food, prepared by Alessia from our beloved Jivamukti Canteen and her helpers, as well as hikes, jogging and optional massages for an extra charge. There is the option of arriving a day earlier, Thursday, January 8, which we strongly recommend from our past years‘ experiency to dive even deeper into the practice in a smaller group setting.

MORE INFO ON THE LOCATION

THE LOCATION: The unwanted two-year break gave us the lucky chance of finding a new location :

As of 2023, we are practicing and detoxing in our own (for the retreats only;) renaissance manor situated on its own exclusive private mini-island within big Rügen island. Except, during January the intimacy of the mini-island and its surrounding bay waters is usually shared by hundreds of wintering white swans and other cool birds. What better company can yogis wish for?

Tucked away in a remote corner of Ruegen island, amongst wheat fields, paddocks, arrays of bird nests, and bays of the Baltic, at the end of a tiny road, there is an exclusive private mini-island completely on all sides by a shallow seawater bay (in German “Wiek”) that is a natural conservation area. The water surrounding our manor not only puts on spectacular displays of light and color at all times of the year; it has also become a refuge for all kinds of species of birds, including cranes, herons, cormorants, grey geese and ducks. In January, the Wiek is mainly used by hundreds of white swans and other cool birds for wintering.

Built in 1553 and being allowed to go to rack and ruin in the 1960s, the manor has just recently been completely rebuilt and restored, keeping most of the details from the old design and thus retaining a generous and enchanting air with bright mansion-like spaces that are perfect for practice and relaxation. Just the right location for those who seek to breathe deeply again. The bird colony and nature reserve surrounding our manor allow for spectacular walks (and optionally ice water dips) under the big skies of Germany's north allowing us to dive back into nature.

There will also be a cool outdoor sauna to enjoy nature and the heat and the cold and complement you detox experience.

THE FOOD

Especially in the winter time and alongside an extensive and intense yoga practice, a healthy and nutritious diet is essential. Our vegan selection with a high content of fresh produce gives you all the vital nutrients in forms that are both delicious and digestible! We will use only super fresh, healthy and certified organic produce and products during this retreat, thus dramatically reducing our intake of toxins, providing a great stimulus for the natural detoxification of the body, and protecting the environment all at the same time. Experience how a super-healthy vegan and organic lifestyle can offer so many colourful and tasty food options, and gain new inspirations for your own yoga and cooking practice at home!

ANJA KUEHNEL

Anja discovered yoga in 2000 while temporarily living in New York for her law studies. Her first experience with Jivamukti Yoga ignited a deep and lifelong dedication to the practice, shaping her path as both a student and teacher. In 2008, she founded Yogaloft Berlin, which in 2009 became Jivamukti Yoga Berlin and what is now Three Boons Yoga Berlin, creating a space where the richness of yogic tradition merges with a modern, vibrant community.

For many years, Anja, who is advanced certified in the Jivamukti Yoga method (besides also being trained in the Khalsa Way and Ashtanga yoga methods) has been a mentor and facilitator of teacher trainings, guiding students through the Jivamukti method with a profound emphasis on both its philosophical roots and practical application. Her teaching is deeply informed by the ancient wisdom of the Upanishads and the Advaita Vedānta tradition, offering a clear, direct approach to Non-Duality (Oneness). She views teaching as an extension of her own practice—an act of sharing that allows both teacher and student to continuously learn, refine, and grow.

Through her classes, Anja inspires students to cultivate clarity, truthfulness, and the inner peace that arises from dedicated practice. She encourages an experiential understanding of the teachings, where glimpses of deep insight emerge through consistent effort and devotion.

At Three Boons Yoga, Anja remains committed to honoring the transformative power of yoga while fostering an inclusive and engaged community in Berlin and beyond.
